Connecting with the Quran

The Holy Quran is unlike any other religious text. It is the ultimate miracle of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى)‎ as it has been promised protection by the All-Mighty (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى)‎ Himself. While earlier divine books were altered beyond recognition, with their meaning lost to time, the Holy Quran remains the same.

The Holy Quran is the preserved word of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى)‎. The Holy Book is a source of guidance, both moral and practical. It contains Divine Wisdom and laws to govern our lives. The Holy Quran also recounts past, present, and future events. Millions of Muslims globally recite the Quran every day. It is necessary to learn the significance of the Holy Quran and the ways we can incorporate it into our daily lives.

The Significance of Connecting with the Holy Quran

The revelation of the Holy Quran marked the beginning of prophethood. The Holy Prophet (ﷺ) was visited by Hazrat Jibrail (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) in a cave and instructed to recite the following verses of the Holy Quran:

  • “READ IN THE name of your Lord who created, Created man from an embryo; Read, for your Lord is most beneficent, Who taught by the pen, Taught man what he did not know.” [96:1-5]
  • The process of revelation continued for 23 years. The Holy Quran was, as a result, revealed over a long period. Despite this, the language of the Quran and the style in which it was written remains consistent throughout. This is a testament to its Divine origin because humans are not so consistent. Authors’ style of writing transforms over time as they grow and learn.
  • The beautiful prose of the Holy Quran is also unique. The verses are very poetic, and recitations of the Quran imbue a sense of peace that is difficult to define. Regarding the elevated nature of the Holy Quran, Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى)‎ states:
  • “Say: ‘Surely if men and jinns get together to produce the like of this (Qur’an), they will not be able to produce the like of it, however they might assist one another.” [17:88]
  • It is an open challenge to anyone and everyone to replicate the Holy Quran. but that is impossible, and many have tried. It is a flawless Book, one free of contradictions or other human errors.
  • The significance of the Quran can be gauged by the fact that the month it was revealed in, Ramadan, is among the most sacred months in Islam. Muslims fast during the month and recite the Holy Quran. It is important to recite the Quran and learn from it all year round, not just during Ramadan.
Tips on Incorporating the Holy Quran in Our Daily Life

Here are some useful tips you can benefit from while trying to make the Holy Quran a part of your daily life:

Daily Recitations

The best way to make anything habitual is to do it consistently for a prolonged period. This is true for any kind of prayer. Daily recitations of the Holy Quran can be helpful, not to mention rewarding. To make it easy, you can designate a time to recite the Quran each day. Fajr, the early morning prayer, can be a great time to read the Quran since it precedes the engagements of the day ahead. It is also the best way to start your day. You can even recite a portion of the Holy Book after each prayer. You are already deep into the remembrance of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى)‎ , and reading the Holy Quran just makes sense after an obligatory prayer.

Listen to the Audio

Muslims whose native language is not Arabic can truly benefit from listening to a recitation of the Holy Quran. Quranic recitation is a wonderful way to connect with the Holy Book since it showcases the beauty of the prose. Even Arabic speakers can reap the benefits of an audio version of the Quran.

This is why knowing the meaning requires us to examine the wealth of information found in the traditions of the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) and the commentaries of the Holy Quran. These provide context and clarify the meaning behind each verse and word of the Holy Quran.

There are hidden meanings and mysteries, such as the Haroof-e-Muqqata’at; however, attempting to understand and learn the meaning where it is explicit is important. We must know what we are reading to grasp the wisdom behind the Holy Book.

Have Open Discussions

People who are more knowledgeable than us can provide a unique perspective and insight that we might not have been aware of. Open discussions broaden our scope and enable us to incorporate multiple points of view. This improves our understanding of the Holy Quran.

Supplicate to Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى)‎

Finally, as with any other aspect of our life, we must always turn to Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى)‎ for help. We can supplicate to the All-Mighty (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى)‎ and seek His help in strengthening our connection with the Holy Book. We can pray for a better understanding of the Holy Quran and learn about it. Seeking Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى)‎ help and guidance is always the path to success.

Power of the Divine Scripture

The Holy Quran is the word of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى)‎. It was sent down through the Hazrat Jibrail (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) to the last messenger, Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ). Since it is the primary source of Islam, it is necessary for every Muslim to recite, learn, and contemplate the Holy Quran.

It is impossible to be a Muslim if we have not studied and followed the guidance contained in the Quran. It is a Divine gift from Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى)‎ to us, and we must cherish it as such. Connecting with the Quran connects us with Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى)‎.  Himself.
