We all know that duas are a powerful tool for Muslims. All the prophets recited various supplications that are beloved to the Almighty that Muslims use to express their concerns and desires to the Almighty. Our beloved Prophet, Muhammad (SAW), also recited various supplications during every stage of Umrah from which we can get guidance. Duas and Supplications for Every Stage of Umrah
- Before Entering the State of Ihram
The state of Ihram is vital for the pilgrimage. You must be in complete purity before arriving at Allah Almighty’s sacred house. This is also when you must purify your intention for performing the pilgrimage. Start strong by making a pure Niyah to make your spiritual transformation worthwhile. Enrolling in a Quran memorization course before your journey can also help you strengthen your connection with the Quran, enabling you to recite meaningful supplications during this sacred time. Here is a Quranic supplication that you can recite during this time.
Dua:
رَبِّ اشْرَحْ لِي صَدْرِي • وَيَسِّرْ لِي أَمْرِي
Transliteration:
“Rabbi ishrah li sadri. Wa yassir li amri.”
Translation:
“My Lord, expand my chest. And ease my task.”
(Surah Taha 20:25–26)
- Upon Entering Masjid al-Haram
Entering Masjid al-Haram and seeing the Holy Kaaba for the first time is a profoundly spiritual experience. There is nothing more faith-reviving and emotionally moving for the Muslims. And you must not waste this incredible opportunity when you feel a new wave of faith, and make as many duas and supplications as you want. No doubt the supplications you make at this time will come from the heart and will be very pure.
Dua:
وَقُلْ رَبِّ زِدْنِي عِلْمًا
Transliteration:
“Wa qul Rabbi zidni ‘ilma.”
Translation:
“And say, ‘My Lord, increase me in knowledge.'”
(Surah Taha 20:114)
- During Tawaf
Performing Tawaf is one of the most prominent rituals of Hajj and Umrah. Orbiting around the Holy Kaaba teaches us the real purpose of our lives: to worship Allah Almighty. This is when your heart must be wholly occupied in remembering the Almighty and reciting various supplications. Even though there are no fixed duas to recite during this time, here is a Quranic supplication that our beloved Prophet, Muhammad (SAW), recited.
Dua:
رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ
Transliteration:
“Rabbana atina fid-dunya hasanah wa fil-akhirati hasanah wa qina ‘adhab an-nar.”
Translation:
“Our Lord, grant us in this world [that which is] good and in the Hereafter [that which is] good and protect us from the punishment of the Fire.”
(Surah Al-Baqarah 2:201)
- At Maqam-e-Ibrahim
Every pilgrim must offer two rakats of prayer at Maqam-e-Ibrahim after completing their Tawaf. You can take this time to remember the legacy of Prophet Ibrahim (AS) and show your respect. You can recite the following supplication while you are at this spot.
Dua:
رَبِّ اجْعَلْنِي مُقِيمَ الصَّلَاةِ وَمِن ذُرِّيَّتِي ۚ رَبَّنَا وَتَقَبَّلْ دُعَاءِ
Transliteration:
“Rabbi aj‘alni muqimas-salati wa min dhurriyyati. Rabbana wa taqabbal du‘a’.”
Translation:
“My Lord, make me an establishment of prayer, and [many] from my descendants. Our Lord, accept my supplication.”
(Surah Ibrahim 14:40)
- At Safa and Marwah During Sa’i
After performing Tawaf, pilgrims head to the sacred hills of Safa and Marwah to perform Sa’i. This ritual commemorates the exceptional struggle and hardship of Hajar, the wife of Prophet Ibrahim (AS). You will learn faith, hope, and endurance lessons while performing this ritual. So, take this time to make the following supplication.
Dua:
إِنِّي مَغْلُوبٌ فَانتَصِرْ
Transliteration:
“Inni maghlubun fantasir.”
Translation:
“Indeed, I am overpowered, so help.”
(Surah Al-Qamar 54:10)
- During Halq or Taqsir
This is the last ritual of Umrah. After you have performed all the Umrah rituals, men must shave their heads or trim their hair to equal lengths. Women are also required to cut a few inches of their hair. It is a physical way of showing the spiritual rebirth that this pilgrimage promises.
Dua:
رَبِّ اغْفِرْ وَارْحَمْ وَأَنتَ خَيْرُ الرَّاحِمِينَ
Transliteration:
“Rabbi ighfir warham wa anta khayrur rahimeen.”
Translation:
“My Lord, forgive and have mercy, and You are the best of the merciful.”
(Surah Al-Mu’minun 23:118)
