Surat Al Sad English Translation

  1. Ṣãd. By the Quran, full of reminders!
  2. But those who disbelieve are in pride and opposition.
  3. We destroyed many nations before them, so they began to cry out (at the time of punishment) and it was not a time for deliverance.
  4. And they were surprised that a guide came to them from among them, and the disbelievers said, “This is a sorcerer and a liar.”
  5. Did he replace so many gods with one god?  This is a very strange thing.
  6. So those who were honorable among them stood up (and said) Go and stick to (the worship of) your gods.  Verily, this is something that is intended (honor and grace upon you).
  7. We have never heard this in the previous religion.  This is completely fabricated.
  8. Has the Book of Advice been revealed to him among all of us?  (No) Rather, they are in doubt from my book of advice.  Rather, they have not yet tasted My punishment.
  9. Do they have the treasures of the mercy of your Lord, the Mighty and the Bountiful?
  10. Or He has dominion over the heavens and the earth and all that is in them.  So they should climb up (to the heavens) by stretching the ropes.
  11. This is also one of the groups defeated here.
  12. Before them, Noah’s people and Ad and Pharaoh with the nails (and the people of his people) also denied.
  13. And the people of Thamud and Lot and the people of Ben.  These are the groups.
  14. (They) all denied the Prophets, so My punishment came (upon them).
  15. And these people only wait for a loud sound in which there will be no pause (after the start).
  16. And they say: O our Lord, give us our share before the Day of Reckoning.
  17. (O Prophet) Be patient with what they say.  And remember Our servant Dawood, who was mighty (and) verily, he was the one who turned back.
  18. We subjugated the mountains to them, so that morning and evening they used to remember (God) the Holy One.
  19. And the birds also used to gather.  All were obedient to him.
  20. And We established their kingdom, and gave them wisdom, and (taught) judgment in matters (of enmity).
  21. Have you heard of those disputants when they broke through the wall and entered the house of worship?
  22. When they came to David, he was afraid of them and said, “Don’t be afraid.”  There is a case between us both that one of us has wronged the other, so judge justice between us and do not do injustice and show us the straight path.
  23. (The quality is that) this is my brother, he (yes) has ninety-nine teeth and I (have) one tooth.  It says that it should also be handed over to me and forces me in the conversation.
  24. He said that the one who asks for your sins, and is indulging in his sins, is indeed oppressing you.  And often partners abuse each other.  Yes, those who believed and did good deeds and such people are very few.  And Dawood thought that We had tried them (by this incident), so they sought forgiveness from their Lord and prostrated themselves and turned (to God).
  25. So we forgave them.  And verily for them we have nearness and a good place.
  26. O David, We have made you a king in the earth, so judge the people with justice and do not follow your desires that will lead you astray from the path of God.  (Prepared) for those who stray from the path of God is a severe chastisement, that they forget the Day of Reckoning.
  27. And We did not create the heavens and the earth and all that is in them without purpose.  This is the assumption of those who disbelieve.  For the unbelievers is the punishment of Hell.
  28. Those who believed and did good deeds.  Shall we make them like those who wreak havoc in the country?  Or they will make the pious like the wicked.
  29. (This) Book which We have sent down to you is blessed so that people may reflect on its verses and so that the wise may take counsel.
  30. And We gave David Solomon.  (They were) very good servants (and) they were about to turn (to God).
  31. When special horses were presented to them in the evening.
  32. So they said: I have taken the love of wealth out of the remembrance of my Lord.  Until (the sun) hid in the veil.
  33. (Said) Bring them back to me.  Then they began to rub their hands on their legs and necks.
  34. And We tested Solomon and placed a body on his throne, then he turned (to God).
  35. (And) supplicated, O Lord, forgive me and grant me such a kingdom that no one should succeed me.  Indeed, He is the Most Gracious.
  36. Then We made the wind subject to their command, so that wherever they wanted to reach, it began to move softly by their order.
  37. And the Devas also (were subjected to them), they were all builders and divers.
  38. And to others who were bound in chains.
  39. (We said) This is our forgiveness (if you wish) so be kind or (if you wish) keep it and let it go. There is no reckoning (from you).
  40. And verily for them we have nearness and a good place.
  41. And remember our servant Ayyub when he called upon his Lord, saying, (By Allah) Satan has afflicted me and afflicted me.
  42. (We said: Kick on the ground (see) this (spring came out) cold for bathing and (sweet) for drinking.
  43. And We spared them their families and their equals.  (This) was a mercy from Us and an admonition for those of understanding.
  44. And take a broom in your hand and strike with it and do not break the oath.  Indeed, we found them steadfast.  They were very good servants.
  45. And remember Our servants Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, who had hands and eyes.
  46. We distinguished them by the remembrance of a special (attribute) of the house (of the Hereafter).
  47. And according to us, they were among the chosen and righteous people.
  48. And remember Ishmael and Ilisa and Dhul-Kafil.  All those good people
  49. This is an admonition and a good place for the pious.
  50. Gardens of everlasting life, the gates of which will be open for them.
  51. They will be sitting on pillows in them and will be asking for a lot of fruit and wine (for food and drink).
  52. And they will have (women) of the same age as those who look down.
  53. These are the things that you were promised on the Day of Reckoning.
  54. This is our sustenance which will never run out.

  58. And similar and many (there will be punishments).
  59. This is an army that will enter with you.  If they do not rejoice, they will go to hell.
  60. They will say, but you are not happy.  It is you who brought this (call) before us, so (it) is a bad abode.

  62. And they will say, what is the reason that (here) we do not see those people whom we used to consider as bad people?
  63. Have we mocked them or have (our) eyes turned away from them?
  64. Verily, this dispute of the people of hell is right.

  74. But Satan became obstinate and became among the disbelievers.
  75. (God) said: O Iblis, what prevented you from prostrating before the person whom I created with my own hands?  Did he become proud or was he among the high-ranking ones?
