Surah Al Shaffat English Translation
- Oath is the wing of those who line up.
- Then the rebuke of the scolds
- Then the dhikr (i.e. the Qur’an) of those who read it (by thinking)
- That your God is one
- Who is the Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is in them, and also the Lord of the places where the sun rises.
- Verily, We adorned the heavens and the earth with the stars.
- And protected him from every rebellious devil.
- That they could not turn their ears to the assembly above, and embers were thrown (on them) from all sides.
- (i.e. from there) and for them is eternal punishment.
- Yes, whoever wants to steal (something of the angels) by stealth, then a burning ember will follow them.
- So ask them that it is difficult to make them or as many creations as we have made? We made them out of glue
- Yes, you wonder and they mock.
- And when advice is given to them, they do not accept advice.
- And when they see a sign, they mock
- And they say that this is obvious magic
- Well, when we die, will we be resurrected?
- And are our fathers (who have) gone before?
- Say yes and you will be humiliated.
- It will be a loud sound and they will start seeing at that time.
- And they will say, O Shamat, this is the day of reward.
- (It will be said yes) This is the Day of Judgment which you believed to be a lie.
- Gather (all) those who used to do wrong, and those of their kind, and those whom they used to worship.
- (That is, those who (worshipped) besides God, then lead them to the path of hell.)
- And make them sit still to ask (something) of them.
- What happened to you that do not help each other?
- Rather, today they are obedient.
- And they will turn to each other and ask questions.
- They will say, are you the only one who has right (and bye) with us?
- They will say, “Rather, you are the ones who believe; there was no pressure on you.” Rather, you were a rebellious people.
- So the word of our Lord concerning us has been fulfilled, now we will taste the pleasure.
- We have also misled you (and) We ourselves were also misled.
- So they will share each other in punishment on that day.
- What do we do with sinners?
- Their situation was that when it was said to them that there is no god but God, they used to be proud.
- And they used to say that we are about to abandon our gods rather than what a mad poet said.
- In fact, he came with the truth, confirming ˹earlier˺ messengers
- Rather, they have brought the truth, and they call the (first) prophets true.
- Verily, you are about to taste a painful torment.
- And you will be rewarded just as you used to work.
- But those who are special servants of God.
- These are the people for whom sustenance is fixed.
- (i.e.) fruits and they will be honored.
- In the Gardens of Blessing.
- (They will sit) facing each other on thrones.
- A drink ˹of pure wine˺ will be passed around to them from a flowing stream:
- Which will be white in color and a (sheer) pleasure for those who drink it. (46)
- There will be no headache from it, nor will they be addicted to it.
- And with them will be women who keep their gaze low and their eyes wide.
- As if they were safe eggs.
- Then they will turn to each other and answer the question.
- One of them will say: I had a companion.
- (Who) used to say: Are you also among those who believe in such things?
- Well, when we die and become dust and bones, will we get a reward?
- (Then) he will say, “Do you want to take a look?”
- If he (himself) looks, he will see him in the midst of hell.
- He will say: By God, you had already killed me.
- And had it not been for the mercy of my Lord, I would have been among those who have been presented (in punishment).
- Are we not going to die?
- Yea (who) died for the first time and we were not punished.
- Indeed, this is a great success.
- Those who act for such (blessings) should act.
- Is this a good hospitality or a tree?
- We have made it a punishment for the wrongdoers.
- He is a tree that will grow in the bottom of Hell.
- His branches will be like the heads of devils.
- So they will eat from it and fill their bellies with it.
- Then hot water will be mixed with it (food).
- Then they will be returned to Hell.
- They found their fathers astray.
- So they run after them.
- And many people before them had gone astray.
- And We sent among them warners.
- So look at what happened to those who were warned.
- Yes, the servants of God (had a very good end).
- And Noah called to us, so (see that) we are good responders (of prayer)
- And We saved them and their families from a great calamity.
- And He did this to their children that only they remained.
- And among those who came behind, he left his mention (Jamail Baqee).
- That is) in all the worlds (that) peace be upon Noah.
- Thus do We reward the righteous.
- Verily, he was one of Our believing servants.
- Then We drowned others.
- And among his followers was Ibrahim.
- When they came to their Lord with a pure heart (from fault).
- When he said to his father and to his people, What things do you worship?
- Why do you seek other than God and gods?
- What do you think about the Lord of the worlds?
- Then he looked at the stars.
- And he said, I am sick.
- Then they turned their backs on them and returned.
- Then Abraham turned to their gods and said, “Why don’t you eat?”
- What happened to you, you do not speak?
- Then he began to strike (and break) them with his right hand.
- So those people came running to them.
- He said, “Why do you worship such things which you carve yourself?”
- Although God has created you and what you create.
- They said, “Build a building for him, then throw him into the heap of fire.”
- Therefore, they wanted to play a trick with them and We overpowered them.
- And Abraham said: I am going to my Lord, He will show me the way
- O Lord, grant me (sons) (who are) among the blessed ones.
- So We gave them the glad tidings of a gentle-hearted boy.
- When he reached (the age of) running with them, Ibrahim said, “Son, I see in a dream that (as if) I am slaughtering you, so think what do you think?” He said, “Father, do what you have been commanded. God willing, you will find me among the patient.”.
- When both of them obeyed the order and the father laid the son on his forehead.
- So We called out to them: O Ibrahim.
- You made the dream come true. Thus do We reward the righteous.
- Undoubtedly, this was a clear trial.
- And We ransomed them with a great sacrifice.
- And left (a good mention of) Abraham among those who came behind him.
- Peace be upon Abraham.
- Thus do We reward the righteous.
- He was one of our believing servants.
- And We also gave them the glad tidings of Ishaq (that he would be) a Prophet (and) of the righteous.)
- And We blessed them and Isaac. And among these two children there are righteous people and there are also those who openly wrong themselves (i.e. sinners).
- And We favored Musa and Harun too.
- And delivered them and their nation from a great calamity.
- And when he helped them, they prevailed.
- And both of them were given the clear Book (Al-Mutalib).
- And showed them the straight path.
- And among those who came behind, he left the mention of them.
- That peace be upon Moses and Aaron.
- Verily, We reward the righteous like this.
- Both of them were among our believing servants.
- And Ilyas was also among the prophets.
- When he said to his people, “Why are you not afraid?”
- Do you invoke (and worship) Baal and forsake the best of creators?
- (i.e.) to God who is your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers.
- So these people denied them. So they will be presented (in Hell).
- Yes, God’s servants will be special (not subject to punishment).
- And left their mention (good) in the past (remaining).
- That peace be upon Yasin
- This is how We reward the good people.
- Verily, they were among Our believing servants.
- And Lot was also among the prophets.
- When We saved them and their families all (from punishment).
- But one woman was among those left behind.
- Then We destroyed others.
- And you pass by them (their settlements) even during the day.
- And at night too. So don’t you have wisdom?.
- And Yunus was also among the prophets.
- When they fled and reached the full boat.
- At that time, they drew lots and collected the zakat.
- Then the fish swallowed them up, and they were blameworthy (deeds).
- Then if they did not describe (God’s) purity.
- So they would live in his belly until the day when they will be resurrected.
- Then We cast them into the open field while they were ill.
- And a pumpkin tree grew over them.
- And sent them (as prophets) to a hundred thousand or more (people).
- So they believed, so We gave them benefits (in this world) until a (fixed) time.
- Ask them, “Would you have daughters for your Lord and sons for them?”
- Or We made the angels women and they were present (at that time).
- Behold, they say that they have made up their own lies.
- There is no doubt that they are the children of God. They are liars.
- Does he prefer daughters to sons?
- What kind of people are you, what kind of decision do you make?
- Why do you not consider?
- Or do you have a clear proof?
- If you are truthful, present your book.
- And they established a relationship between God and the jinn. Although the jinn know that they will be presented (before God)
- Allah is free from what they describe.
- But the servants of God are pure (will not suffer punishment)
- So you and those whom you worship.
- They cannot deceive against God.
- But to him who is going to hell.
- And (the angels say) each of us has a place appointed.
- And we remain lined up.
- And they keep on mentioning the pure (God).
- And these people used to say
- If only we had a Reminder like ˹those of˺ earlier peoples.
- Then we would have been pure servants of God.
- But (now) they disbelieve in it, so soon they will know (its result).
- And Our promise has been fulfilled to the servants who convey Our message.
- That they (Muzafru) are Mansoor.
- And our army will prevail.
- So stay away from them for a while.
- And keep watching them. They will also soon see (the end of disbelief).
- Are they hastening our punishment?
- But when he descends in their field, it will be a bad day for those who were warned.
- And turn away from them for a while.
- And keep watching, you will soon see (the result).
- (Pure) is your Lord, the Honorable, from what they describe.
- Peace be upon the messengers.
- And all praise is due to God, Lord of the worlds.
