Surah e Saba English Translation

  1. All praise is due to God (who is the owner of all things) that whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth belongs to Him and to Him is the praise in the Hereafter.  And he who is wise is wary.
  2. He knows what enters the earth and what comes out of it and what descends from the sky and what ascends to it.  And He is Merciful (and) Forgiving.
  3. And the disbelievers say that the hour (of judgment) will not come upon us.  Say why not (it will come) By my Lord it will surely come to you (He is the Lord) Knower of the Unseen.  It is not smaller or larger than an atom, but the book is (written) in the light.
  4. In order to reward those who believe and do good deeds.  These are the ones for whom there is a provision of forgiveness and honor.
  5. And those who tried in Our verses will defeat us.  For them is the punishment of a painful chastisement.
  6. And those who have been given knowledge know that what (the Qur’an) has been revealed to you from your Lord is the truth.  And (God) shows the way to the Mighty and Deserving Praise.
  7. And the disbelievers say: Shall we tell you of a man who informs you that when you (die) are completely disintegrated, then you will be born anew?
  8. Either he has lied to God.  Or he has an obsession.  The point is that those who do not believe in the Hereafter are in calamity and misguidance of the highest degree.
  9. Have they not seen what is before and behind them, the heavens and the earth?  If We want, we can sink them into the earth or let pieces of the sky fall on them.  Therein is a sign for every servant who turns.
  10. And We gave Dawood the lead from Our side.  O mountains, glorify them and the birds (subjugated them), and for them We softened iron.
  11. That make broad armor and connect the links with a measure and do good deeds.  I will see what you do.
  12. And (We) made the wind subject to Sulaiman, its morning destination would have been a month’s journey and its evening destination would have been a month’s journey.  And for them We sent down a fountain of copper, and among the jinn there were those who worked before them by the command of their Lord.  And whoever of them deviates from Our command, We will make him taste the Fire (of Hell).
  13. They build for themselves whatever they want, i.e. forts and statues and (big) dedications like ponds and pots which are kept in one place.  O children of David, give thanks (to me) and among my servants there are few who are grateful.
  14. Then when We decreed death for them, it was not known that they died from anything but the worm that ate their staff.  When the rod fell, then the jinn realized (and said) that if they had known the unseen, they would not have been in the pain of humiliation.
  15. For (the people of) Saba there was a sign in their place of Budobash (namely) two gardens (one) on the right and (one) on the left.  Eat the sustenance of your Lord and give thanks to Him.  (This is) a pure city for you to live in, and (there) is a forgiving God.
  16. So they turned away (thankfully), so We let down upon them a heavy flood and gave them two gardens in exchange for their gardens, the fruits of which were bad-tasting and in which there was some chaff and a few berries.
  17. We punished them for their ingratitude.  And We punish only the ungrateful.
  18. And between them and the towns (of Syria) which We had blessed, We made villages (adjacent to each other) that could be seen from the front, and we fixed the measure of the coming and going in them, so that there would be no fear, day or night.  Keep going.
  19. So they prayed, O Lord, make our distance (and length) longer, and (therefore) they wronged themselves, so We created their legends (by destroying them) and dispersed them completely.  In it are signs for every patient and grateful person.
  20. And Satan proved his opinion of them true that they followed him except a group of believers.
  21. And it had no force on them, but (our) purpose was to distinguish those who believed in it from those who doubted in the Hereafter.  And your Lord is Sustainer over all things.
  22. Say: Call those whom you consider as gods besides God.  They do not own even an iota of anything in the heavens and the earth, nor do they have any participation in them, nor is any of them a helper to God.
  23. And intercession with God will not benefit (anyone) except for what He permits.  Even when anxiety is removed from their hearts, they will say what your Lord has said.  (The angels) will say that the truth (has been spoken) and it is of high rank and great value.
  24. Ask who gives you sustenance from the heavens and the earth?  Say: Allah and We or you (either) are on the straight path or in clear error.
  25. Say: You will not be questioned about our sins, nor will we be questioned about your deeds.
  26. Say: Our Lord will gather us together, then judge between us with justice.  And He is well-judged and knowledgeable.
  27. Say: Show me those whom you have associated with Him.  There is none but God (alone) who is Mighty (and) Wise.
  28. And (O Muhammad) We have sent you as a bearer of glad tidings and a warner to all people, but most people do not know.
  29. And they say, If you are telling the truth, when will this promise (of Resurrection) come to pass?
  30. Say: You are promised a day from which you will neither lag behind nor move forward.
  31. And those who disbelieve say: We will neither believe in this Qur’an nor in those (books) that came before it, and if only you could see (these) wrongdoers when they stand before their Lord and  They will be contradicting each other.  Those who were considered weak will say to the big people that if it were not for you, we would surely have believed.
  32. The great will say to the weak: Did we stop you from guidance when it came to you?  (No) Rather, you were the sinners.
  33. And the weak people will say (no) to the great people, but (your) tricks of the night and day (held us back) when you used to tell us to disbelieve in God and associate Him with Him.  And when they see the punishment, they will be sorry in their hearts.  And We will put a yoke on the necks of the disbelievers.  They will be repaid only for what they used to do.
  34. And We did not send a warner to any town, but the prosperous people there said, “We do not believe in what you have been sent with.”
  35. And (also) they said: We have a lot of wealth and children and we will not be punished.
  36. Say: My Lord provides provision for whomever He wills (and restricts for whomever He wills), but most people do not know.
  37. And your wealth and children are not something that makes you close to us.  Yes, (our close friend is) one who believed and did righteous deeds.  Such people will be repaid twice because of their deeds and they will be sitting in lofty places.
  38. Those who try to defeat Us in Our verses, they will be brought to the punishment.
  39. Say, “My Lord provides sustenance for whomever He wills of His servants and restricts (for whomever He wills), and He will repay (you) for what you spend.”  And He is the Best Sustainer.
  40. And on the Day when He will gather them all together, then He will ask the angels, did these people worship you?
  41. They will say if he is pure then he is our friend.  Not this.  Rather, they worshiped the jinn.  And most used to believe in them.
  42. So today none of you has the authority to benefit or harm anyone.  And We will say to the wrongdoers: Taste the punishment of Hell, which you believed to be a lie.
  43. And when Our clear verses are recited to them, they say: This is a person who wants to stop you from what your fathers used to worship, and (also) say:  It (Qur’an) is just a lie (created by oneself).  And when the truth came to the unbelievers, they said about it, “This is clear magic.”
  44. And We did not give them (the polytheists) the Books to whom they read, nor did We send any warner to them before you, but they denied.
  45. And those who were before them disbelieved, and what We had given them did not amount to a tenth of it, so they disbelieved in My Messengers.  So how was my punishment?
  46. Say: I advise you only one thing, that you stand alone for the sake of God and then meditate.  There is no bargain with your friends, they are only to warn you before the punishment is severe.
  47. Say: I have asked you for some reward, so it is for you.  My reward is due to God.  And He is aware of everything.
  48. Say: My Lord sends down the truth from above (and He is) the Knower of the Unseen.
  49. Say: Truth has come and (God) cannot create falsehood for the first time, nor will He create it again.
  50. Say that if I am misguided, then my misguidance is harmful to me.  And if I am on guidance, then it is the guidance of that which my Lord sends revelation to me.  Verily, He is the Hearing (and) Near.
  51. And if only you could see, when they are frightened, they will not be able to escape (from the punishment) and will be seized very close.
  52. And they will say: We believe in him, and (now) how can their hand reach to believe from such a distance?
  53. And at first they kept denying it and kept shooting arrows (of suspicion) from afar without being seen.
  54. And there was veiled in them and in the things of their desire, as was done before to their fellow-men; they were also in confusion and doubt.
