Surat Al Mumtahanah English Translation
- Believers! If you have come out (from Mecca) to fight in my cause and to seek my pleasure, do not make friends of me and your enemies. You send them a message of friendship And they deny the truth that has come to you. And because you have believed in your Lord God Almighty, they exile the Prophet and you. You send them a hidden message of friendship. And I know what you do secretly and openly. And whoever among you does so has gone astray from the straight path.
- If these disbelievers gain power over you, then they will become your enemies and they will spread their hands and tongues against you and want you to become disbelievers in some way.
- Neither your relatives nor your children will be of any use on the Day of Judgment. He will judge you that day. And God sees what you do.
- You must follow the righteous behavior of Ibrahim and his companions. When they said to the people of their nation, “We are indifferent to you and to those (idols) you worship besides God (and) you (can never be) convinced (of your gods), and until you believe in God, the One and Only God, you will always have open enmity and enmity between us. “Yes, Abraham said to his father that I will seek forgiveness for you and do not have any authority over you before God. O our Lord, in You is our trust, and to You alone do we turn, and to Your presence (we) must return.
- O our Lord, do not punish us at the hands of the disbelievers, and O our Lord, forgive us. Verily, He is the Mighty in wisdom.
- You (Muslims), i.e. whoever hopes (to see God) and (to come) on the Day of Resurrection, should follow the good behavior of these people. And if he turns away, God is indifferent and worthy of praise.
- It is not surprising that God should create friendship between you and those whom you are enmity with. And God is Mighty, and God is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
- God does not forbid you to treat those who did not fight with you about religion and did not drive you out of your homes with goodness and justice. God loves those who do justice.
- God forbids you to make friends with those who fought with you about religion and expelled you from your homes and helped others to expel you. So those who make friends with such people are the wrongdoers.
- Believers! When believing women come to you from their homeland, test them. (And) God knows their faith well. So if you know that there are believers, do not send them back to the disbelievers. That they are not lawful for them and they are not permissible for them. And give them what they have spent (on them). And there is no sin on you Give these women dowries and marry them, and do not take possession of the honor of unbelieving women (i.e. give it back to the unbelievers) and demand from them whatever you have spent on them, and whatever they have spent (on their wives) should demand from you. This is the order of God, Who decrees among you, and God is All-Knowing, All-Wise.
- And if any of your wives leave your hand and go to the unbelievers (and her dowry is not received), then fight with them (and you get booty from them), then give to those whose wives have gone away what they had spent, and fear God in whom you believe.
- O Prophet! When believing women come to you to pledge allegiance that they will not associate with God, nor steal, nor commit adultery, nor kill their children, nor bind their hands and feet with any slander, nor disobey you in good deeds, take the pledge from them and seek forgiveness from God for them. Indeed, God is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
- Believers! Do not make friends with those on whom God is angry (because) just as the disbelievers have no hope (of the resurrection) of the dead, so these people have no hope (of the Hereafter).
