Surah Al Hadid English Translation

  1. All creatures in the heavens and the earth glorify God.  And He is Mighty (and) Wise.
  2. His is the kingdom of the heavens and the earth. (He) gives life and kills.  And He is Able to do all things.
  3. He is (the) first and (the) last and (by His powers) manifest and (by His nature) hidden, and He knows all things.
  4. He is the One who created the heavens and the earth in six days and then ascended the Throne. He knows what enters the earth and what comes out of it and what descends from the sky and what ascends to it.  And he is with you wherever you are. And God is watching what you do.
  5. His is the kingdom of the heavens and the earth.  And all matters refer to Him.
  6. Night turns into day and day turns into night. And He knows even the secrets of the hearts.
  7. (So) believe in God and His Messenger and spend out of the (wealth) with which He has made you (His) deputy.  Those of you who believe and spend (wealth) will have a great reward.
  8. And how are you people who do not believe in God? Although (His) Messenger is calling you to believe in your Lord, and if you believe, He has already taken (His) covenant from you.
  9. It is He Who sends down clear (al-Talib) verses to His servant to bring you out of darkness and into light. Indeed, God is Most Compassionate (and) Merciful to you.
  10. And what has happened to you that you do not spend in the way of God, although the inheritance of the heavens and the earth belongs to God. He who spent and fought before the conquest (of Makkah) among you (and he who did these things afterwards) are not equal.  Their status is much higher than those who later spent (property) and waged Jihad (against the disbelievers). And God has promised the best (reward). And God is Aware of what you do. (10)
  11. Whoever lends to God with good (intention) and sincerity, He will double it, and for him is the reward of honor (i.e. Paradise).
  12. On the day when you will see believing men and believing women, their light (of faith) going ahead of them and to their right,  You will live forever among those under whom rivers flow. This is a great success.
  13. On that Day hypocrite men and hypocrite women will say to the believers to have (mercy) on our behalf so that we too may get light from your light. So they will be told to go back and look for light. Then a wall will be erected between them.  Whoever has a door, that which is on the inner side, therein is mercy, and on the outer side, on that side is punishment.
  14. So the hypocrites will say to the believers that we were not with you (in the world). They will say why we were not.  But you called yourselves into trouble and waited (for events in our favor) and doubted (in Islam) and (false) longings deceived you until the commandment of God came and you knew about God. (Satan) was deceived by the deceiver.
  15. So today compensation will not be taken from you, nor (will it be) (accepted) from the disbelievers.  (That) that is worthy of you and that is an evil place.
  16. Has not the time yet come for the believers that their hearts should be softened when they remember God and when they listen to the (Qur’an) that has been sent down by (God) the Truth and they should be of those people? Do not turn to those who were given books before (them). Then a long time passed over them, so their hearts became hard. And most of them are disobedient.
  17. Know that it is God who revives the earth after its death.  We have made clear to you Our signs so that you may understand.
  18. Those who give charity are both men and women.  And those who lend to God with good (intention) will be repaid double, and for them is the reward of honor.
  19. And those who believe in God and His Messengers are righteous and martyrs in the sight of their Lord.  For them will be the reward of their (deeds). And the light of their faith.  And those who disbelieved and denied Our revelations are the people of Hellfire.
  20. Know that the life of this world is only play and pageantry and adornment and your pride among yourselves and your desire for wealth and children more than one another (an example of this is) like rain that (cultivates with it)  It grows and) the farmers find the cultivation good, then it grows strong, then (O seer) you see that it (ripe) turns yellow, then becomes straw and in the Hereafter. (For the disbelievers) the punishment is severe and (for the believers) forgiveness and pleasure from God.  And the life of this world is a delusion.
  21. Servant) towards the forgiveness of your Lord and (toward) Paradise, whose width is like the width of the heavens and the earth. And that which is prepared for those who believe in God and His Messengers. It is the grace of God that He bestows on whomever He wills.  And God is the possessor of great grace.
  22. No calamity befalls the country and you yourselves, but it is (written) in a Book before We create it. (And) this (task) is easy for God.
  23. So that you do not grieve for the one who has passed away from you and do not begrudge him what he has given you. And God does not like a boaster or a braggart.
  24. Those who are stingy themselves and teach others to be stingy, and whoever turns away, then God is careless (and) He is worthy of praise.
  25. We sent Our Messengers with clear signs. And sent down upon them books and scales (i.e. the rules of justice) so that people may adhere to justice. And produced iron, there is also a serious danger in it (in terms of weapons of war).  And there are benefits for the people, and so that those who help God and His Messengers incognito, may God know them.  Verily, God is Mighty (and) Mighty.
  26. And We sent Noah and Abraham (as Prophets) and placed among their descendants Prophethood and (continuing) the Book (from time to time), so some of them are on guidance. And most of them are disobedient.
  27. Then he sent messengers after them at their feet, and after them he sent Jesus, the son of Maryam, and gave them the Gospel. And those who followed him put compassion and kindness in their hearts. And turning away from pleasure, they took out a new thing by themselves. We did not command them but (they thought) to gain the pleasure of God.  He should have been killed but could not be killed.  So those of them who believed, We gave them their reward, and among them there are many disobedients.
  28. Believers! Fear God and believe in His Messenger. He will reward you twice as much as His mercy, and He will make light for you in which to walk, and He will forgive you.  And God is Forgiving, Merciful.
  29. (These things) are (stated) so that the People of the Book may know that they have no power over the grace of God.  And that grace is in God’s hand, He gives it to whom He wills, and God is the owner of great grace.
